When choosing your skill there are a few routes you can go down. If you are already learning to do something such as a musical instrument then you could continue to do that as your skill. The other thing you could do is learn a completely new skill as you might discover something you like doing and it may be a good thing to learn as it could hep you later on in life. This is a good opportunity to learn new life skills to help achieve more things.
Examples of things you could learn:
- photography
- videography
- cookery
- musical instrument
- technology – design an app, build a robot, create a website etc
- languages – start learning a completely new language or develop your knowledge of one you are already learning
- sign language
- money management – learn to make and keep track of a budget
- construction work – build something out of wood
- car maintenance – learn how to change a tyre, learn how the different parts of an engine and how to fix damages
- first aid
- public speaking
- creative writing
- gardening
How will you learn?
During your DofE experience you are going to need an assessor for your skill, physical and volunteering parts. This is to confirm you have actually spent time doing the chosen activity. For your skill you will need someone who can confirm you have learnt to do the thing you have chosen. To do this you may want to consider finding some sort of online course, maybe one that happens over a video call, this way the person hosting it would be your assessor.
